لأنني يمامة عادية الألوان
تقليدية الأماكن
محددة النوع و الملامح
لا أحب أبراج الحمام

لأني يمامة عادية الألوان
لا يتبادلني التجار في الأسواق الشعبية
و لا يلعب حولي الأطفال في الحدائق

لأني يمامة عادية اللون
لا أزحم لوحات الفنانين
كما لا يستعمل ريشي في الكتابة
و لا تداعبني عدسات المصورين
و لا عدسات البنادق

لأنني يمامة عادية
لا أحرم ممارسة الحب
من أجل وجبة غذاء
مع البرغل و الرقائق

و لا يرسم لي علم خطوط طيراني
و لا يختار لي أحدهم أصدقائي

لأني يمامة عادية اللون
لا يهتم بي أحد
فأعيش عمراً طويلاً
و ألفظ أنفاسي الأخيرة
وحيدة
بدون صخب

As a common yamama*-
normal colors,
usual places,
I don’t like pigeon coops.◦

As a common yamama
no one sells me in markets-
children don’t chase me in parks.

As a common yamama
my feathers aren’t used for writing.
I don’t crowd up artists’ canvases.
Photographers’ lenses don’t caress me…
Rifle scopes don’t either.

As a common yamama
I can make love
not lunch,
served with bulgar and soup,
and signal flags don’t direct my flights†
and no one chooses my friends‡

As a common yamama
no one cares about me
so I can live a long life
and breathe my last
alone
with no commotion.

* A yamama is a small brown dove-like bird similar to a pigeon found in the Middle East. They are common and not used for food or pets.

◦ pigeon coops are called pigeon towers ( Burg el-Hammam) in Arabic, and they are used for breeding pigeons.

†Pigeon owners use flags to direct the daily flights of their birds to and from the pigeons’ coops.

‡ it’s a hobby that pigeons breeders in the Middle East fly their flocks of birds daily.
